Christian Abbiati could be out for six months after sustaining a probably rupture of the ligaments in his right knee.
The Milan goalkeeper was stretchered off in visibly agony just 13 minutes into today's 5-1 win away to Siena.
Abbiati up the injury during an accidental collision with teammate Giuseppe Favalli and it was immediately obvious it was serious. More tests are needed to confirm the initial diagnosis, but Milan medical staff suspect Abbiati has ruptured the ligaments in his right knee.
This would result in surgery and a spell on the sidelines for around six months.
Abbiati has been the number one choice goalkeeper at Milan this season, so Dida's substitute's role was his first appearance of the Serie A season.
